Something I often hear in my waxing studio is that people don't know what products to use, when to use them, etc., and that they feel like their products just sit and go to waste because they end up doing nothing at all. I'm here to help you figure out what to do with those products!

This post will specifically highlight the use of Fur products because that's what I sell in my treatment room*, but I can make a separate post with more budget-friendly options if there would be interest in that.

*This is not at all affiliated with Fur, they have no idea I'm making this post and they probably don't even know who I am at all. I just want my clients to have a nice resource to learn about their products in an accessible way

Understanding your body care routine

I always tell my clients to think of it just like a skincare routine for your face, just take a few steps away.

  1. Cleanser

  2. Exfoliant

  3. Serum

  4. Moisturizer

  5. SPF when/where necessary

This is what a body care routine looks like. You're not doing all 5 of these steps every single night (or at least, you shouldn't be) but this is the order you should put your products on, regardless of what's being skipped that night. A general nightly routine will just be a cleanser (body wash) and moisturizer or oil.

Step 1: Cleanser

Anything we do with our hair/skin/nails always starts with cleaning to give us a fresh, healthy base, and our body care routine will be no different!

The body wash you use in the shower can make all the difference in the world, and most people don't even know it! Fur's All Body Wash is my favorite body wash I've ever used, and for being a high-end product, it's not terribly priced. The lather of this wash goes a long way, meaning you only need a tiny amount to sufficiently wash your whole body. Other than just cleaning your skin, this product is great for hydrating your skin and softening your hair/skin!

This is a step that should be done daily/ any time you take a shower.

Step 2: Exfoliant

Exfoliating is key to a good waxing routine as well as keeping your skin healthy!

My rule of thumb is you should be exfoliating 1-3x a week. I recommend starting with just 1x a week if that's easiest for you, and generally, it should only be done in the evening. Once you get used to exfoliating one night a week, then you can add in another night if you want. Eventually, some kind of event or trip will pop up and will have you exfoliating twice in one week anyways, so take advantage of that opportunity to kick up your exfoliating routine! Fur has 2 exfoliants and my general recommendation for just about anyone is their Silk Scrub. This is what I use and is sitting in my shower at home right now! This will be great for preventing ingrown hairs, softening the hair/skin, and hydrating your skin.

step 3: serum or oil

Similar to face serums, some of these products can also be targeted treatments for things like breakouts or ingrown hairs. I don't think these are a necessity for anyone's routine if you aren't prone to or don't struggle with ingrown hairs, but it's never bad to do preventative care!

Ingrown Concentrate Serum, just as the name suggests, is an ingrown hair preventative serum. This can be used daily as a preventative or as a spot treatment when needed to clear up existing breakouts.

Ingrown Microdart Patches are a league of their own, but I like to think they're in this category since they're a form of targeted treatment. Similar to the ingrown concentrate serum, this is a way to quickly and directly target an existing ingrown hair. These should only be used as needed, after the ingrown hair has formed (when you see the bump under your skin form).

Step 4: Moisturizer

Just like for your face, moisturizer is essential to keeping your skin hydrated and, in the long run, will help prevent signs of aging.

Fur All Body Butter is a great option for anyone suffering from severe dry skin, especially cracking elbows, heels, etc. This is safe to use daily and will render the best results when used daily but isn't necessary if you don't have extreme dry skin anywhere.

Fur Oil is a great product that could replace a traditional daily moisturizer. It's hydrating, will soften your hair and skin, it's safe to use on the whole body, and just a few drops will get the job done. It's also great as a cuticle oil, bath oil, scalp conditioner and/or cracked hands repairer. This is safe and recommended for daily use!

step 5: SPF

This step won't always be applicable, but had to throw it in there just so you don't forget! At the beginning of your day and throughout the day you definitely want to be applying and re-applying SPF anywhere that you have skin exposed.

Even if you're inside or work inside.

Even in the winter.

The exception is night-time. The sun can't get ya if it isn't out!

Fur doesn't have their own SPF, but I personally really love every product I've tried from SuperGoop. I also love that they make it easier with larger sizes available. Tiny tubes don't last when you apply several times a day, every single day!

Let's recap

You shouldn't be doing all 5 of the previous listed steps every single night, so here's a quick general breakdown of what your weekly schedule could look like:

  • Use your fav body wash every time you shower (I've also liked some of FarmHouse Fresh's options, but they're usually heavily scented)

  • Exfoliate 1 night a week, any night you want (Just be sure to space it out 2-3 days from your last exfoliation night)

  • If necessary, using a spot treatment directly on breakouts or in areas you typically get them, to prevent new breakouts

  • Use Fur oil/ your fav moisturizer nightly, and throughout the day as needed

  • SPF should be re-applied every 2 hours throughout the day, preferably daily (Even I, as a licensed esti, take remembering to put it on in the AM is a huge win. Aim small and get more frequent as it becomes second nature for you!)

Almost all of the above tagged Fur products (All Body Butter is not something I keep in stock) are also available for purchase in my suite during your appointment!
