All About Permanent Jewelry

Updated: Oct 11

The time has finally come! Permanent jewelry has officially been added to my menu and with that has come a whirlwind of questions. Here's your guide to all things PJ!

What is permanent jewelry?

Permanent jewelry is a hot trend right now, largely offered at salons, pop-up markets, weddings, and other events! You get to design your own piece of clasp-less jewelry that will take your daily look to the next level.

How it works:

  • Choose a chain that you like

  • Choose a charm or connector for your piece

  • We custom-fit it for you, making sure it will be comfortable

  • It's closed with a jump ring, and I weld that jump ring closed

  • You have a new piece of permanent jewelry!

My menu includes bracelets, anklets, rings, and necklaces. I can do other pieces upon request, just let me know what you have in mind!

How "permanent" is it?

When properly cared for, it can last as long as you'd like it to! My very first bracelet was put on me almost 2 years ago and is still in great shape and has never broken. I also have clasps available upon request for anyone who does not want a "truly" permanent piece.

Does it ever come off?

Yes! Of course it does. Rings are made and fitted to be able to slide on and off your fingers, so that's the easiest answer. Any bracelet, anklet or necklace can easily have a clasp attached if you'd prefer to take it off sometimes.

For pieces that don't have a clasp, the jump ring I put on and weld shut is how you'd take it off. You can simply use scissors or nail clippers to cut the jump ring where it was welded and it will come right off! I will be sure to point out the jump ring and the weld site during your appointment.

is this tsa safe? what about medical procedures?

Permanent jewelry is totally okay to pass through TSA/ airport security. I've flown a few times with my pieces and never had an issue.

For a medical procedure such as x-rays, MRI, CATSCANs, surgeries, etc. you will more than likely have to remove it. As mentioned before, just cut at that jump ring and it will come off. When cutting it off for something like a medical procedure, you can keep all the pieces (chain, and any charms or connectors) and bring them back to me for a free reweld!

why is there aftercare? what is it?

All jewelry requires proper care to keep it looking it's best! For any permanent jewelry piece, warm water + a small amount of dish soap used on a soft toothbrush can easily and quickly bring your piece back to life! For more deep cleanings, a traditional silver dip or silver cleaner is recommended. When using silver cleaners, it's important to be mindful that too many cleanings can eventually strip the outer layer of metal on your chain.

To keep your piece looking as good as possible for as long as possible, it'll be worthwhile to avoid excessive chemicals, lotions, and perfumes, as well as bodies of water like lakes and oceans, or swimming in chlorine pools.

If the aftercare is daunting or seems too difficult, you can always opt to have a clasp put on!

Can kids get permanent jewelry?

I will only be offering jewelry to anyone 13+ with a parent present.

Per the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there are a few rules for anyone 12 or under receiving jewelry. These rules state that any jewelry going to/ on anyone 12 or under must:

  • Have a lead testing certificate

  • Receive a tracking label or card

  • Have small part testing

Even with a clasp on the piece, anyone 12 or under cannot receive PJ (or any other jewelry) without these things in place. You can read more about the CPSC rules here and here.

When booking an appointment online for permanent jewelry, please select all jewelry you'd like at once (ex: bracelect + ring + charm).

If you want multiple of the same pieces (3 bracelets, each with 1+ charm) you would book: bracelet + charm. We can fit as many of 1 piece in a time slot as you'd like!

If you are undecided or just know you'll need extra time choosing your pieces, there is an "undecided jewelry" listing. Booking that just gives us the extra time so you can take time your time looking everything over and making your choices.

booking for multiple people

Each individual getting permament jewelry has a form to fill out before the appointment. It will be e-mailed upon booking and will be required to receive the service.

If the sole reason you want to book together is just to cover the cost of someone's piece, it's much easier all around if you're able to purchase an e-giftcard for them! My giftcards absolutely count for permanent jewelry.

When booking multiple people for one appointment (for example: best friends, partners, parent/child) please book separate for each indiviudal so each person receives their own form.

This could look like:

Person A: bracelet + charm @ 1pm Person B: bracelet + charm @ 1:30pm

My booking system always shows the next available time slot, so after 1 person books the other will just take the next slot that is available! If you're struggling, please feel free to reach out to me!

AS OF NOW, BOOKING FOR PERMANENT JEWELRY IS OPEN! IF YOU STILL HAVE QUESTIONS ALWAYS FEEL FREE TO REACH OUT TO ME. I HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON :)
